Protection Training

Sport-Based Protection Work Rooted in Control, Clarity, and Temperament

At Houseraydas, protection training is approached as a discipline — not a product.

Our foundation is rooted in structured sport frameworks such as IGP and Körung, where protection is developed through precision, nerve strength, and absolute control. From that foundation, we offer both sport protection development and carefully structured home/personal protection pathways for suitable dogs and committed handlers.

Protection is never built on fear, chaos, or uncontrolled aggression. It is built on clarity, obedience, and temperament.

What Protection Training Really Is

What Protection Training Really Is
Protection training — when done correctly — is the development of:

Stable nerves under pressure
Clear thinking in high arousal
Strong, calm grips without conflict
Immediate obedience before, during, and after engagement
Environmental neutrality outside of work

A correctly trained protection dog is stable, safe, and controllable in everyday life.
Protection work is not about creating aggression. It is about developing controlled power under structure.

Two Pathways: Sport & Personal Protection

Sport Protection (IGP & Körung)

Our sport program follows established international methodologies used in IGP trials and breed suitability evaluations.

We develop:

Balanced drive expression
Calm, full grips
Clean outs and obedience under pressure
Progressive pressure appropriate to maturity
Trial-ready performance standards

This pathway is suitable for competitors, working-line dogs, and suitable show-line dogs under assessment.

Structured Home / Personal Protection

In select cases, we also train dogs for home and personal protection.

However, this is never offered casually.

Before any protection-specific work begins, the dog must:

Be evaluated for temperament and nerve strength
Demonstrate environmental stability
Have a solid obedience foundation
Be trained directly under our system
Have a committed, responsible handler

Only dogs with stable temperament are trained for protection.
Our program avoids intimidation tactics and always builds on solid foundations.

Personal protection training is built on the same principles as sport — control, clarity, and accountability — with appropriate real-world applications layered responsibly.

Non-Negotiable Standards

Protection training is only offered when:

Obedience foundations are established
The dog has been formally assessed
The handler demonstrates control and long-term commitment
The dog’s temperament supports the work ethically

Protection without obedience is irresponsible.
Protection without evaluation is negligent.

These standards protect the dog, the handler, and the public.

Who This Is Suitable For

We train:

IGP competitors and aspiring sport handlers
Working-line and suitable show-line dogs
Dogs preparing for IGP trials or Körung-style evaluations
Selected dogs suitable for structured home protection

Suitability is determined through assessment — not owner preference.

Suitability-Based Protection Beyond Sport

While our protection work is sport-rooted, in carefully selected cases, dogs outside of formal competition may be considered for structured protection training.

Eligibility depends on:

Temperament and nerve strength
Existing obedience and handler control
Clear motivations and ethical intent
Long-term handler commitment

Acceptance into this pathway is not guaranteed and begins with a formal assessment.

Why Houseraydas

Protection work demands proven experience, correct systems, and accountability. Our qualifications are demonstrated not through claims, but through measurable results at the highest levels of Irish IGP.

Our program is built on:

The youngest IGP Champion in Irish history, developed and trained through our system
Trainer of the 2025 Best Female Overall at the Irish IGP Nationals
Development of the youngest A‑grade helper in Irish history, produced internally
That same helper achieved the highest score in Irish helper licensing
Active involvement in the training of the Protection Phase Winner at the 2025 Irish Nationals

These results reflect not isolated success, but a repeatable, ethical, and competition‑proven protection system.

We do not experiment on dogs. We apply methods tested under trial pressure, judged objectively, and validated publicly.

Assessment & Entry

Protection work demands proven experience, correct systems, and accountability. Our qualifications All protection training begins with an in‑person assessment.

This evaluation looks at:

Temperament and nerve strength
Drive expression and clarity
Environmental stability
Obedience foundations
Handler control, intent, and commitment

Only dogs and handlers meeting our standards are accepted into protection work.

Request an Assessment

Protection training done correctly produces stable, confident, controllable dogs.
Done incorrectly, it creates liability.

At Houseraydas, protection is treated with the seriousness it demands — as part of a complete working dog education.

If you are interested in pursuing sport or structured personal protection training, the first step is assessment and honest discussion.
